Victoria's minimum rental standards have been in effect since 2021 — and since November 2025, your property must meet every one of them before it can even be advertised for rent.

This isn't coming. It's here. Consumer Affairs Victoria is actively inspecting.

Some of these rules are already in effect.

Door locks Windows Window coverings Blind cord safety
Smoke alarms Electrical safety Heating Ventilation
Lighting Structure Bathroom Toilet Kitchen Laundry Bins

Most landlords assume their property is compliant. Most of the time, they're wrong about at least one standard.

Consumer Affairs Victoria is actively inspecting. Non-compliant properties face fines up to$11,982 per breach. Since November 2025, your property must meet minimum standards before it’s even advertised.
